Yonamine Rui (与那嶺瑠唯) is a Japanese performer and choreographer. He is a member of the group THE RAMPAGE from EXILE TRIBE.

He participated in the EXILE PERFORMER BATTLE AUDITION and made to the finals, but didn't get selected.

Early Life

Yonamine Rui was born on August 16, 1995, in Tomigusuku, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. He is part Japanese, Filipino, Hispanic and American. He has a younger brother.

Since his parents listened to blues and disco music, he had been surrounded by music ever since he can remember. Additionally, his uncle had been working as a dancer. Through his family's influence he became interested in dancing when he was in his first year of junior high school. Until then, he had been playing baseball from the 3rd grade of elementary school to the 1st grade of junior high school.

After he watched the performance of Japanese Pop-group DA PUMP at a charity event in his hometown, his interest in dancing sparked even further. Ultimately, Yonamine started attending a relative's dance school in junior high school and participated in the dance club of his high school later on. Although Yonamine was the only male student in the club with dance experience, they won second place in a dance competition held in Naha in the same year as a boys' team. In his second year of high school, he became the vice president of the dance club and was responsible for guiding practice and choreographing. As the dance skills of his classmates improved, he had more opportunities to participate in dance competitions, and even went to dance battle competitions on the mainland as an individual. Since the dance club traditionally ends in the spring of the third year of high school, Yonamine decided to follow his friend Kamiya Kenta's footsteps and start attending EXPG Okinawa after graduating. When spring came, he entered EXPG as a scholarship student.

In order to pay the fees for the dance lessons, he also took his first part-time job at a call center when he was a freshman in high school: "My parents told me that they would pay for my dance school lessons, but I was the eldest son, and I thought I couldn't be spoiled, so I paid for it from my part-time job."

Career

2014

In 2014, Yonamine graduated from Oroku High School.

At the age of 18, he participated in the EXILE PERFORMER BATTLE AUDITION to test his abilities and was able to remain as a finalist. Even though he wasn't able to be finish as a winner, he was selected to become a candidate for the upcoming EXILE TRIBE group THE RAMPAGE in April 2014.

After completing the group's first musha shugyo, Yonamine went from being a candidate to an official member on September 12 of the same year.

2017

On January 25, Yonamine made his major debut in THE RAMPAGE with the group's first single "Lightning".

• Him and Kamiya Kenta together are called the "Haisai Duo" or "Haisai Combi". They are from the same hometown and the first students from EXPG Okinawa to join LDH.
• Him and his brother share a lot of facial features with their father.
• Has appeared in the YouTube videos of model Ryuchell.
• After working at a call center, he worked at a convenience store located in an airport for about two years. He describes this experience as "interesting to interact with customers from various countries and learn various languages".
• Described as a free spirit, mild-mannered, always smiling, shy and cheerful. According to his members, his presence is soothing and he has become more talkative since his debut. Additionally, he would have "a beautiful heart" and be a person who is kind to everyone without any distinction.

  • Decided to raise a cat since many people around him had cats and he wasn't sure if he had enough time to take care of a dog. He received his cat from Zin's family.

• His favorite manga is ONE PIECE. When he was in elementary school, he dreamed of becoming a member of the "Straw Hat Gang". His father is the captain of a cargo ship, so he imagined he was the son of a pirate.
