Seguchi Leiya (瀬口黎弥) is a Japanese performer and actor. He is a member of the group FANTASTICS from EXILE TRIBE.
Prior to joining the group he was part of the EXPG trainee team EXILE GENERATIONS.
Early Life[]
Seguchi Leiya was born on March 11, 1996, in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan.
Influenced by his mother's work at a local entertainment agency, Seguchi started modeling when he was a child. From that time on, he appeared in local commercials and karaoke images, and naturally thought about working in the entertainment industry.[1][2][3]
On the other hand, he also dreamed of becoming a professional soccer player as he played soccer from the time he was old enough to start preschool and was balancing club activities and modeling until he was in junior high school.[2] Additionally, he practiced swimming, kendo and aikido at the recommendation of his parents.[1][4]
When he was 15 years old, he suddenly became interested in dancing after watching the TV show Mecha × 2 Ike Teru ~tsu! (めちゃ×2イケてるッ！) in which EXILE and comedian Okamura Takashi collaborated for the project OKAXILE. The encounter with EXILE's performance led Seguchi to have a new dream of "standing on stage as a performer".[2] Despite having no experience in dancing, he was convinced he could succeed: "[...] When I saw Mr. Okamura's process to get on stage, I knew it would be possible if I made an effort."[1][3]
For this reason, he started to attend EXPG Fukuoka and focus on dance after his graduation.[5] "I was so determined to catch up that I made friends with people in the advanced classes and asked them to teach me how to dance, so I could practice with them."[2] At the age of 18, he moved to Tokyo and transferred to EXPG Tokyo with a promise to his parents that he would give up if he didn't achieve anything in the next four years, the time that young adults usually spend at university to graduate.[2][6] In order to earn money for his living expenses and lessons, he worked part-time as a catering staff (during wedding ceremonies) for a bridal shop.[1][5][6]

2016[]
In 2016, Seguchi joined the trainee group EXILE GENERATIONS and on December 29 in the same year, he was announced as a member of FANTASTICS. At the age of 20 at that time, he had the shortest dance experience among the members.[1][2]
2018[]
On December 5, he debuted in FANTASTICS with the release of their first single "OVER DRIVE".
2019[]
In 2019, he made his acting debut in the movie 4-gatsu no Kimi, Spica..
2022[]
In 2022, he played his first TV drama role in TV Tokyo's Jitensha-ya-san no Takahashi-kun.[7][8]
2024[]
On March 11, he will release his first photobook titled ViVigura Seguchi Leiya. The release was announced by Seguchi in a live broadcast at his Instagram account on December 5, 2023.[9]
Personal Life[]
- Health
On November 7, 2023, it was announced that Seguchi had been diagnosed with a peritonsillar abscess as a result of a medical examination at a hospital after he had been absent from activities since the beginning of the month. He would currently be undergoing treatment and be on the way to recovery, but after consultation with the doctor, it had been determined that he would need to rest for a while longer, and he would cancel his scheduled appearances for the following week.[10][11][12] On November 13, 2023, it was announced that his health had improved and he would resume his activities from the same day.[13] He was not able to participate in the music video for "Peppermint Yum" as it was shot during his recuperation period.[14][15]

- During FUN! FUN! FANTASTICS he revealed that he would like to be active as a rapper besides being a performer.[21][22]
- Wants to try different forms of entertainment to grow as an artist. "As an individual, I want to become an artist who can not only perform, but also be active in a wide range of genres."[3]
- Wants to hold solo events, come up with something elaborate and create the content himself.[23]
- Doesn't train dancing at home, however he watches performances of other artists to get inspired. "While relaxing at home, I try to provide input that will lead to my personal growth."[24]
