Sato Kanta (佐藤寛太) is a Japanese actor. He is member of the acting group GEKIDAN EXILE.

He joined GEKIDAN EXILE in January 2015.

Early Life

Sato Kanta was born on June 16, 1996, in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. His mother is from Fukuoka Prefecture and his father is from Nagasaki Prefecture. From the age of 1 to the age of 7, he lived on the island city Tsushima in Nagasaki Prefecture. Afterwards, he returned to Fukuoka Prefecture.

He has two younger brothers and used to play baseball from his first year in elementary school to the 3rd year of Junior high school.

Sato grew up in a sheltered household without much connection to the entertainment industry. "I grew up in a house where we were required to go to bed by 8:00 pm until 6th grade. That's why I've never watched any TV dramas, and I've never seen any variety shows [...] so I didn't really have a specific image of the entertainment industry. However, I did watch a lot of movies. For example, Ultraman and Kamen Rider, as well as foreign dramas. [...] I didn't know the information that people my age usually knew. [...] I didn't know any music, and I hadn't been exposed to any of the so-called Tokyo culture. I'm far away from all that."

Nevertheless, he became interested in acting. "There was a video rental store nearby, so I really liked renting movies and watching them by myself, so that was my start. I wanted to be an actor, or rather, I wanted to act in movies, and that was the first thing that got me interested." The movie that influenced him the most was Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close which he watched when he was in junior high school. At that time, one of his classmates and good friends was studying singing at EXPG. He invited Sato to join him once Sato entered the first year of high school. During his high school years, Sato went to EXPG almost every day. "Rather than enjoying the lessons, I felt a sense of mission to become a good dancer. Other than that, I was living a normal high school life like anyone else."

Career

2013

In 2013, in his second year of high school, he participated in the "EXPG National Special Student Audition" in the model department of the Fukuoka branch and passed, which led him to learn dancing.

In the same year, he participated in the EXILE Presents VOCAL BATTLE AUDITION 4 ~Yume wo Motta Wakamono Tachi e~ but failed during the first screening.

2014

In 2014, he took part in the EXILE PERFORMER BATTLE AUDITION and made it to the second screening but was defeated by other contestants yet again.

In the same year, he became a research student of GEKIDAN EXILE after passing the GEKIDAN EXILE Audition (劇団EXILEオーディション).

2015

In January, Sato officially joined GEKIDAN EXILE and started his activities as an actor.

In the same year, he moved to Tokyo.

He made his acting debut in the TVdrama HiGH&LOW ~THE STORY OF S.W.O.R.D.~.

2016

In 2016, he played his first lead role in the movie Itazura na Kiss THE MOVIE ~High School Hen~.

2021

In April, he started his first solo digital serialization titled "Sato Kanta no Henai Shugi de Ikou!"" on the entertainment-related website Pia, in which he talks about his favorite movies and his personal life, but also about other topics besides movies, invites guests from the film industry and holds interviews.

On June 16, he released his first photobook titled NEXT BREAK. A total of four photographers were involved in the creation of the book, with one of them being actor and singer Kitamura Takumi, who has been his best friend both in public and private life since they co-starred in the movie Koi to Uso (2017)

• Was classmates with THE RAMPAGE's Iwaya Shogo and Yoshino Hokuto in high school.
• In an interview he revealed that he participated in VOCAL BATTLE AUDITION 4 and EXILE PERFORMER BATTLE AUDITION so that people at LDH's headquarter would remember his face.
• The reason he chose LDH as the agency he wanted to apply for was because he thought that LDH would support him no matter what he wanted to do as an artist. "I thought this is a company that backs up any challenge without denying it, so I applied [...]. That's because I have seen EXILE challenging various things in their careers."
• Describes his personality as a "cumulonimbus cloud".
• When he plays a role, he always thinks about the backbone of the role and delves into the character.
• Would like to travel across the European continent.
• In an interview in December 2021, he revealed that he used to be a workaholic, but has recently been able to afford to spend more time on himself and do things that interest him. "Currently, I enjoy climbing mountains, camping, and kickboxing. I have been learning kickboxing since I was in high school, and it has become a part of my life now, as it is also a part of my action acting."
