Nakajima Sota |
Nakajima Sota (中島颯太) is a Japanese singer, performer and actor. He is a member of the groups FANTASTICS from EXILE TRIBE and EXILE B HAPPY.
He passed the EXILE Presents VOCAL BATTLE AUDITION 5 ~Yume wo Motta Wakamono Tachi e~ as one of two winners in 2017 and was selected as one of the vocalists of FANTASTICS.
Early Life[]
Nakajima Sota was born on August 18, 1999, in Osaka Prefecture, Japan. He has a younger sister.[1][2]
He grew up surrounded by music, having learned to play the piano under the influence of his parents from kindergarten to the third grade of elementary school, and playing the guitar since junior high school.[3][4][5]
He started singing later than playing instruments and was originally embarrassed to sing in front of others, but when he formed a band with his friends in junior high school, this feeling gradually changed and and he started going to karaoke by himself.[5] Additionally, his interest in the entertainment industry sparked after watching a concert of EXILE: "When I was in junior high school, I went to see EXILE's live performance at Kyocera Dome and heard ATSUSHI's singing voice, I thought 'It's singing after all!'."[3][4][5]
As a result, he started attending EXPG Osaka when he was a high school student in order to follow his dream of becoming a singer. During his time as an EXPG student, he actively attended the live performances of Sandaime J SOUL BROTHERS and GENERATIONS in addition to EXILE. He also went to watch the first musha shugyo of FANTASTICS (a performance group without vocalists at that time).[3][4]
Career[]
2017[]
Impressed by the performance of FANTASTICS, Nakajima decided to participate in the EXILE Presents VOCAL BATTLE AUDITION 5 ~Yume wo Motta Wakamono Tachi e~.[4][5] On December 20, 2017, on the TV show Sukkiri, it was announced that he had become one of the winners of the audition and been added as a member to FANTASTICS alongside Yagi Yusei.[6] Looking back on his audition and his determination, he later said, "I went to a preparatory school for junior high school, high school and university, but the third screening (of the audition) was on the same day as my university (entrance) exam, so (in the end) I chose this path because I wanted to pursue a career in singing."[3]
2018[]
On December 5, he debuted in FANTASTICS with the release of their first single "OVER DRIVE".
2022[]
On November 15, he became an ambassador for FM802's "Moderna Meets Music" project. With this announcement, it was also revealed that he would become the DJ of a regular program on FM802 that would start in January 2023, and that FANTASTICS were creating a song for the project with the full version scheduled to be aired in 2023.[7][8][9] The song was later revealed to be "Easy come, easy go".[10]
2023[]
In February, Nakajima made his acting debut in the digital drama Love Death Match.
On March 24, his first solo photobook titled Sotabon was released.[11][12][13]
On June 1, it was announced that he had become a member of the new unit EXILE B HAPPY consisting of EXILE TRIBE members for LDH JAPAN's KIDS B HAPPY project.[14][15]
Personal Life[]
- Family
Despite paying for preparatory school, his parents encouraged him to continue VBA5 when its third screening clashed with the university entrance exams. "I talked to my parents about it, but they pushed me and I was able to follow my dream without hesitation. But actually, I later heard that my grandparents were against me choosing to audition... they told my parents that they wanted me to go to university. But they didn't let me know that, and they kept telling me to choose my dream. I really felt the greatness of my parents, and knowing that my grandparents were also worried about me made me realize that I shouldn't be half-hearted in the future."[4]
Nakajima himself describes his family as "really close", "positive", "eager to get out" and "never quarrelling".[4] His parents also give him feedback to his performances, and they keep in touch with each other frequently despite living in different parts of the country.[4]
