Kiyokiba Shunsuke (清木場俊介), also known by the stage name SHUN, is a Japanese singer and songwriter. He is a former member of the group EXILE and currently active as a solo artist.

Kiyokiba was a founding member of EXILE, in which he was active as one of their vocalists under the stage name SHUN. He left the group on March 29, 2006 to devote himself to his solo career but remained under LDH's management. He left LDH and the label rhythm zone in 2008.

History[]

Pre-debut[]

Kiyokiba has played in a band since he was in middle school. Even after the band broke up when he was 18, he still played the guitar in the tunnels in his hometown, alongside others who shared the same interest. By the age of 20, he has worked in the construction business, and has managed a team of teen workers in the field. Then, he participated in a vocal audition organized by a local television station and won. Coincidentally, an avex employee who happened to be in the audition contacted him. After that, HIRO contacted Kiyokiba and Sato Atsushi to do a recording of a song (which was later revealed to be the English version of "Your eyes only ~Aimai na Boku no Katachi~"). Although HIRO planned to add only one vocalist to J Soul Brothers, he choosed both of them and they became members of the group.

2001-2006: EXILE[]

On August 24, 2001, Kiyokiba was announced as a new vocalist of J Soul Brothers under the stage name SHUN. In the summer of 2001, J Soul Brothers changed its name to EXILE and, on September 27, 2001, they made their debut with the single "Your eyes only ~Aimai na Boku no Katachi~".

In 2004, he participated in Ozaki Yutaka's tribute album "GREEN" A TRIBUTE TO YUTAKA OZAKI using his birth name, officially beginning his solo career.

On January 19, 2005, he released his solo debut single "Itsuka...".

On October 19, 2005, he released his first studio album Kiyokiba Shunsuke.

On March 27, 2006, it was announced on EXILE's website that SHUN would be leaving the group with the release of their fourth studio album ASIA on March 29 in order to focus on his solo career.[1]

On March 29, 2006, he officially left EXILE but remained under the management of LDH for his solo career.

2007-2009[]

In 2007, he made his first acting role in the movie Tengoku wa Matte Kureru, and launched his fashion brand titled ENO HUNDERT ELF under his own management.

On September 17, 2008, he announced that his departure from LDH and from the label rhythm zone, and became an independent artist.

On January 11, 2009, during the final concert of the Kiyokiba Shunsuke LIVE TOUR 2008-2009 "ROCK & SOUL II" in JCB HALL, he announced that he has signed to the label SPEEDSTAR RECORDS. Despite the transferation of labels, his first best album Kiyokiba Shunsuke SONGS 2005-2008 was released under rhythm zone on March 18, 2009.

On July 8, 2009, he released his third studio album Rockin' the Door, being his first release under SPEEDSTAR RECORDS.

2014-present[]

On March 5, 2014, he released his third best album Utaiya・BEST Vol.1 as the first release in commemoration of his 10th anniversary since the start of his solo career. In the album, he collaborated with EXILE ATSUSHI for a cover of EXILE's song "Hane 1/2", being the first time since Kiyokiba's departure from EXILE that they sang together. Kiyokiba also collaborated in two songs for ATSUSHI's second solo album Music released a week after, on March 12, 2014.[2]

On August 28, 2016, he participated of EXILE ATSUSHI LIVE TOUR 2016 "IT'S SHOW TIME!!" as a special secret guest in celebration of the 15th anniversary since EXILE's formation.

Sometime in 2017, he left SPEEDSTAR RECORDS.

On April 7, 2018, he announced that he had established his own record label, UTAIYA RECORDS UNITED.[3]

On August 1, 2022, he announced the release his fourth best album Utaiya・BEST Vol.2 in commemoration of his 20th anniversary since his solo debut.[4] On September 16, it was revealed that the album would be sold in a made-to-order format, with the reservation period going from September 16 to September 30, 2022, and delivery stated for early November.[5]
