Trivia[]
- Member Color: Light Pink (Sandaime J SOUL BROTHERS)
- Described as someone with a prince-like aura who is shining and very charming.[98]
- According to himself, he is a workaholic and likes his job. However, he doesn't want to think, "Oh, I spent all my time working." when he dies, so he is conscious of taking breaks as well.[99]
- Very fond of his profession as an artist, particularly due to his positive influence on others. "The moment when I realize that I am cheering someone up is the moment when I am glad to have done this job."[100]
- Describes himself as a very ambitious and positive person. He also embraces the idea that "imperfections are beautiful".[100]
- Has a childhood friendship with YU, the vocalist of the Japanese rock band I Don't Like Mondays.. Their parents were very close, and they were playing back and forth between their houses as long as they can remember. Although they attended different elementary schools, they went to the same cram school and saw each other every day.[101]
- Has loved art since he was a child and frequented art museums and galleries. The foundation for this love seems to come from his family. "When my brother and I were children, my aunt made oil paintings of our pictures and gave them to my parents as gifts. It is still displayed in my parents' house, and I think that's the root of my work. My father collects scrolls, and my daily exposure to art may have led to my current interest in expressing myself and being creative, even as an adult."[102]
- Likes to paint and look at pictures.
- According to himself, he doesn't have a particular theme and just paints motifs that come to him. Additionally, he enjoys the time to imagine the process of creating a work of art.[103]
- A self-taught oil painter.[104]
- Started painting because he had too much free time during the COVID-19 pandemic. He paints in the corner of his house.[105]
- Started planning his solo project during the COVID-19 pandemic in order to be able to make a living on his own since neither EXILE nor JSB3 would be eternal. Additionally, he is fully involved in his solo work, from planning to strategy stages.[2]
- In order to make his solo debut, Iwata created a proposal himself and talked directly to EXILE HIRO. Additionally, he already prepared original songs for the proposal, recorded them himself and let HIRO listen to the pre-finished sound source. According to Iwata, HIRO was initially surprised, but approved of the project.[106]
- According to himself, performing on stage as a solo artist was not a dream he had since he was a child, but a new dream he found after working as a dancer and performer.[107]
- According to himself, his solo projects are "a kind of reward for himself" and a fulfilling time that balance out his other activities.[104]
- Since he is the general producer for his solo project, he is responsible for everything from budgeting, etc.[100]
- Considers it easier to convey what he wants to say if he writes the lyrics for his songs himself, so he works with lyricists to discuss the theme of each song and the words he wants to use, discussing with them where to place these words to make the music more pleasing to listeners. "Some lyrics were written as if we were constructing a fictional game or short film, in which we decided on the main character and then the setting and worldview of the story, while other lyrics were written straight from what we feel on a daily basis." Additionally, what he wants to convey to his fans and what he wants to say to himself are often the same. "I want people to choose a life of challenges rather than being afraid of challenges."[54]
- When he creates songs, he first decides on a concept for each song, and when he writes lyrics, he writes down what he wants to say and the themes that come to his mind in bullet-point form, and then puts them into writing.[108]
- According to himself, the joy of delivering his own music is similar to the joy of delivering the work he has been involved in as an actor to the world.[54]
- According to himself, he is very persistent and particular when it comes to recording songs, and redoes recordings even if the director gives the OK but he himself isn't satisfied.[109]
- According to himself, he thinks it is a world where stability is not guaranteed, and there are occasionally moments when he draws a line somewhere, thinking that a third party would not understand his current situation or his current feelings, and he would feel lonely.[110]
- Also, when he is simply exhausted, he would feel like saying "I'm sleepy" or "I'm tired" without thinking.[110]
- To overcome such situations, he would talk about it if it is something that can be solved by talking to someone, but more often than not, he would be worried about something that cannot be solved by talking about it. "In the end, I vent that stress in another way and grit my teeth again...and repeat. I think the rest will come down to how strict I can be with myself and how high I can keep my motivation.", "I am only human, so my physical strength and the things I can think about in my head are limited, and sometimes I short-circuit.", "It's always been the same, a brief venting and then the same loop starts again, and that's how I've been living my life for the past few years."[110]
- His friends are are very important to him, especially when it comes to unwinding outside of work. "It's not that I complain about work, but just casual time gives me a break, so I think it's good to have that kind of presence."[110]
- The moment he can relax and return to his true self is when spending time with friends: "I feel comfortable with my classmates from school and friends I have been with for years. But, I feel lonely when I think that everyone will get married before me and that they won't be able to hang out with me as much once they have a family. I have no plans to get married."
- Considers it a blessing "to be able to put stress and pressure on oneself to pursue a dream, to make a goal, and to be able to burn with passion for it". "You only live once, so I believe that finding something you can be passionate about, whether it is work, family, or hobbies, will enrich your life, so if you don't have a dream, I encourage you to find one."[111]
- His favorite artist is Picasso.[102]
- In an interview in mid 2022, he mentioned that he would like to make a living as an actor on his own, but he wasn't at the point to do so yet.[2]
- In an interview in 2022, he revealed that he did not have any concrete projects planned for working overseas, but he would be open to do so if any opportunity arises.[102]
- Cherishes his encounters with dance and overseas artists that created the opportunity for him to become an artist. "Encounters with people and things that make me yearn for them are definitely a guideline for my life."[111]
- Loves visiting Paris (France), and the first time he travelled there was in 2017 for a Louis Vuitton fashion show.[112]
- Would like to start playing golf.[100]
- Has a close friendship with Dean Fujioka since they co-starred in the TV drama Sherlock.[113]
- Was classmates with actor Furukawa Yuki in university. At the time Iwata was a representative of one of his university's dance circles, Furukawa was the representative of another one.[1]
- According to himself, he is aware of his different roles in various jobs. For example, he acts differently as a soloist than as a group member.[114]
- Appeared on the cover of the final issue of the magazine "HOT PEPPER" (December 2023 issue), published on November 24, 2023.[115][116]
