Hidaka Ryuta (日髙竜太) is a Japanese singer and performer. He is a member of the group BALLISTIK BOYZ from EXILE TRIBE.

He was selected to join the group after becoming a finalist of the EXILE Presents VOCAL BATTLE AUDITION 5 ~Yume wo Motta Wakamono Tachi e~.

Early Life[]

Hidaka Ryuta was born on January 11, 1996 in Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan.

He had loved singing since he was in elementary and junior high school as his grandfather was a singer. However, he didn't start learning singing in earnest until he was in high school.[1][2]

Until he was in junior high school, he aspired to become a comedian since he loved comedy.[3] Additionally, he was an athlete who practiced Kyokushin Karate from the 5th grade of elementary school to the 3rd grade of junior high school, and track and field in junior and senior high school. At the same time, he was praised by his friends when he performed songs at cultural festivals.[1]

When he was thinking about his future in the first year of high school, he saw the video release of EXILE LIVE TOUR 2010 FANTASY which led him to decide to become a singer. As a result, he entered EXPG Miyazaki in 2011 and started learning Hip-Hop dance when he was 16 years old.[1][4][5] "When I was in high school, I thought that was all I could do. I've wanted to be on TV since elementary school, and I've also been talking about being an athlete or a comedian, but I love to sing, and my friends always told me I was a good singer, so I had a little confidence."[2]

Career[]

2013[]

Since his skills improved and he was moved to high-level classes faster than he expected, he was confident enough to participate in the EXILE Presents VOCAL BATTLE AUDITION 4 ~Yume wo Motta Wakamono Tachi e~ in 2013, when he was in the third year of high school. Ultimately, he was able to reach the final screening, but did not get selected as a winner. In a later interview, he recalled his feelings: "That was the first time I experienced a major setback. I was really frustrated, and there were times when I was depressed, but I didn't want to give up my dream, and I wanted to become an artist of EXILE TRIBE."[1][2][6]

2014-2017[]

In order to pursue his dream in a more professional environment, he moved to Tokyo and entered EXPG Tokyo after graduating from high school.[1][5] From 2014 to 2017, he was part of the trainee group EXILE GENERATIONS, and from 2017 onwards, he was a member of EXPG Lab's project group Crasher kidz. During these years, he worked as a support dancer for EXILE in order to gain experience while also working part-time to earn money.[1][2] Looking back, he later revealed that he went through a troubling time between the ages of 19 and 20.[7]

In mid 2017, he participated in the EXILE Presents VOCAL BATTLE AUDITION 5 ~Yume wo Motta Wakamono Tachi e~ and remained as a finalist yet again. However, he was selected as candidate for BALLISTIK BOYZ and given a chance to debut.[1][2][5]
