GENERATIONS from EXILE TRIBE is a Japanese dance & vocal boy group formed and managed by LDH JAPAN and signed to the record label rhythm zone.

GENERATIONS is part of the collective supergroups EXILE TRIBE and Jr.EXILE, and is currently composed of 6 members: 2 vocalists and 4 performers. The group was formed in 2011 with 7 EXPG students of which two had been finalists of the VOCAL BATTLE AUDITION 2.

They made their major debut on November 21, 2012 with the single "BRAVE IT OUT".

History[]

2011: Pre-debut[]

In April 2011, EXILE HIRO began forming GENERATIONS. The candidate members started their activities in the summer of 2011, with a major debut as their goal. In the same month, the first members of the group were announced on Shuukan EXILE: Komori Hayato, Sano Reo, and Sekiguchi Mandy.

On July 19, along with Komori, Sano and Sekiguchi, four more members were announced as candidate members: Shirahama Alan, Machida Keita, Katayose Ryota and Kazuhara Ryuto. Shirahama and Machida were members of the acting team GEKIDAN EXILE, while Katayose and Kazuhara were finalists from the VOCAL BATTLE AUDITION 2, being selected as the group's vocalists.

On July 23, the group started their Musha Shugyo event.[1]

2012: Debut[]

On February 14, it was announced that Machida had left the group and rejoined GEKIDAN EXILE to focus on being an actor.

On April 17, all six members were announced to the public as official members of the group.[2]

During July and August, the members held their second Musha Shugyo event as 5 members. Sekiguchi did not participate for appearing late to the events.

On September 11, it was announced that Nakatsuka Yuta, who had been working as an instructor at EXPG and also as a support member for the group, would be added as an official member.[3]

On November 21, GENERATIONS debuted with the release of their first single "BRAVE IT OUT". The title track was used as the theme song for the drama Sugarless, in which member Shirahama Alan starred.

2013[]

On January 30, with the release of their second single "ANIMAL", the group joined the EXILE TRIBE with their name becoming GENERATIONS from EXILE TRIBE.

On May 15, they released their third single "Love You More".

On July 10, GENERATIONS released a collaborative single with Sandaime J Soul Brothers, titled "BURNING UP", as a part of EXILE TRIBE's releases.

On October 9, they released their 4th single "HOT SHOT".

On November 13, the group released their first studio album, GENERATIONS, which achieved the #1 position on the Oricon charts for the first time, selling approximately 49,000 copies in its first week of release.[4]

2014[]

On January 1, 2014, HIRO appointed Shirahama Alan as the leader of GENERATIONS.

On April 23, the group released their 5th single "NEVER LET YOU GO".

On April 27, 2014, Alan and Sekiguchi Mandy were added as official members of EXILE, after winning the EXILE PERFORMER BATTLE AUDITION. All performers of the group participated in the audition.

On September 3, the group released their 6th single "Always with you".

In November 2014, it was announced that GENERATIONS would release a new album in February 2015, and following the release would go on a nationwide tour, as well as a world tour. The world tour was scheduled to take place in June, with stops in Paris, London, Los Angeles, New York, Taipei, and Hong Kong.

2015[]

On January 28, they released their 7th single "Sing it Loud".

On February 18, the group released their second album, GENERATION EX. The album also reached the the #1 position on the Oricon weekly charts, selling more than 64,000 copies in its first week.[5]

From April 4 to June 28, GENERATIONS held their first live tour and world tour GENERATIONS WORLD TOUR 2015 "GENERATION EX", performing in Japan, France, the United Kingdom, the United States, Taiwan and China.

On May 13, they released their 8th single "Evergreen".

On August 12, the group released their 9th single "Hard Knock Days", with its title track serving as the 18th opening theme of the anime ONE PIECE

On September 16, they released their 10th single, "ALL FOR YOU", with its title track being used as the theme song for the movie Girl's Step, in which E-girls member Ishii Anna starred. The single reached the #1 position on both the daily and the weekly Oricon charts, making this GENERATIONS' first #1 single, and also their best selling single so far.[6]

2016[]

On January 27, the group released their 11th single "AGEHA".

On March 2, they released their third album, SPEEDSTER.

From April 23 to December 2, the group held their second live tour GENERATIONS LIVE TOUR 2016 "SPEEDSTER", which was released on DVD and Blu-ray on December 28.

On June 29, the group released their 12th single "Namida", which peaked #1 in Oricon's weekly singles chart.

On November 16, GENERATIONS released their 13th single "PIERROT".

2017[]

On February 6, it was announced that they would be releasing their 14th single "Taiyou mo Tsuki mo" on April 12.

On May 15, the group started their world tour, titled GENERATIONS from EXILE TRIBE WORLD TOUR 2017 ~SPEEDSTER~, which took place until May 28. The tour was supposed to end on June 4, but due to a terrorist attack in Manchester, England, the June 2 concert in France and the June 4 concert in London were cancelled.

On July 5, the GENERATIONS released their fourth studio album, Namida wo Nagasenai Pierrot wa Taiyou mo Tsuki mo nai Sora wo Miageta.

From July 22 to December 17, they held their fifth live tour GENERATIONS LIVE TOUR 2017 "MAD CYCLONE".

On October 25, the group released their 15th single, "BIG CITY RODEO".

2018[]

On January 1, the group released their first best-of album, BEST GENERATION.

From March 2 to March 18, the group embarked on an extension of their fourth live tour in China, titled GENERATIONS CHINA TOUR 2018 "MAD CYCLONE".

From May 12 to August 5, GENERATIONS held their sixth live tour and first dome tour GENERATIONS LIVE TOUR 2018 "UNITED JOURNEY".

On June 13, the group released their 16th single, "F.L.Y. BOYS F.L.Y. GIRLS".

In July, they appeared on the Korean music show Show Champion.[7]

On October 31, they released their 17th single, "Shounen".

On November 6, the group attended and performed at the 2018 MBC Plus X Genie Music Awards in Incheon, South Korea.[8][9]

On December 19, the group released their fourth digital single, "G-ENERGY", which is counted as the group's 18th single. The song was used to promote LDH martial arts' ENERGY PROJECT, alongside E-girls.

2019[]

On January 23, a footage of the GENERATIONS LIVE TOUR 2018 "UNITED JOURNEY" concerts was released on DVD/Blu-ray.

On May 25, it was announced that the group would make a 3-month consecutive release period, the first being their 19th single, "Brand New Story", on July 17. Their new dome tour, GENERATIONS LIVE TOUR 2019 "Shounen Chronicle", was announced as well.

On August 28, they released their 20th single and the second of their 3-month consecutive releases, "DREAMERS".

From August 31 to December 15, GENERATIONS held their seventh live tour and second dome tour GENERATIONS LIVE TOUR 2019 "Shounen Chronicle".

On September 25, the group released their 21st single and the last of their 3-month consecutive releases, "EXPerience Greatness".

On November 21, they released their fifth studio album, SHONEN CHRONICLE. The title track of the album was rewarded the "Best Art Direction Video" award at the MTV Video Music Awards Japan in 2020.[10][11]

On December 31, GENERATIONS appeared for the first time at the 70th NHK Kouhaku Uta Gassen,[12] performing the song "EXPerience Greatness".[13]

2020[]

On April 15, the group released their 22nd single "Hirahira".

From April 18 to July 5, GENERATIONS eighth live tour and third dome tour GENERATIONS PERFECT LIVE 2012▶2020 was scheduled to be held. However, the tour was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On May 11, they released the song "You & I" digitally as their 23rd single.

On July 6, GENERATIONS held their first (online) live concert LIVE×ONLINE "GENERATIONS".

On September 23, the group held their second (online) live concert LIVE×ONLINE IMAGINATION "GENERATIONS".

On October 31, they held the Halloween-themed (online) live concert GENERATIONS LIVE×ONLINE "STRANGE HALLOWEEN NIGHT".

On November 18, the group released their 24th single "Loading...".

On December 27, they held their fourth (online) live concert GENERATIONS LIVE×ONLINE 2020 BALLAD BEST ~ORCHESTRA LIVE~, featuring an orchestra for a new arrangement of several of their songs.

On December 31, GENERATIONS performed "You & I" at the 71st NHK Kouhaku Uta Gassen, performing at the event for the second year in a row.[14]

2021[]

On February 10, the group released their 25th single "Ame Nochi Hare".

On May 1, GENERATIONS released the song "HELLO! HALO!" digitally. The song was used as theme song for the NHK ETV's show E Dance Academy.

From May 20 to June 2, they held a series of live concerts titled GENERATIONS LIVE×OFFLINE "Loading...", their first performances with an in-person audience since the COVID-19 pandemic started.

On July 14, the group released their 6th studio album Up & Down.

On October 6, the group released their 26th single "Unchained World", with its title track serving as the ending theme for the Netlix ONA Hanma Baki - Son of Ogre.[15][16]

On December 22, the group released the tribute single "GENERATIONS FROM EXILE". The single is the fourth and last of the four consecutive tribute single releases by Jr.EXILE groups to celebrate EXILE's 20th anniversary.[17]

On December 31, the group performed at the 72nd NHK Kouhaku Uta Gassen, performing in the event for the third year in a row.[18]

2022[]

On March 11, the group embarked on their their 8th tour GENERATIONS LIVE TOUR 2022 "WONDER SQUARE" with a 3-day opening concert at Tokyo Dome titled GENERATIONS LIVE TOUR 2022 "WONDER SQUARE" ~Kaimaku-sai~.

On May 23, they released the digital single "Atarashii Sekai".

On August 3, the group released their 27th single "Chikara no Kagiri". The title song was used for Fuji TV's drama Teppachi!, starring GEKIDAN EXILE member Machida Keita.

On November 1, the group's official fanclub was opened.[19]

On November 21, the group celebrated their 10th anniversary since their debut.

On November 23, the group released their 28th and first double A-side single "Aikizu / My Turn". The first A-side was used for Abema TV's drama Fukumen D, starring member Sekiguchi Mandy while the second A-side was used as the theme of the 2022-2023 season of D.League.[20]

On December 3, the group held the 24-hour program GENERATIONS 24 Jikan Television 24 Jikan Ironna Live Dekiru kanaa? and released the single "PARTY7 ~GENEjaNIGHT~", which was sold in a limited quantity.[21]

On December 15, their 8th tour ended after a 2-day concert titled GENERATIONS LIVE TOUR 2022 "WONDER SQUARE" THE FINAL ~Christmas Special~ at Saitama Super Arena.[22][23]

2023: 10th Anniversary[]

On March 8, the group released their 7th studio album X.[24]

On March 12, GENERATIONS performed at the live event "D.U.N.K. Showcase" produced by SKY-HI for his project D.U.N.K. -DANCE UNIVERSE NEVER KILLED-.[25]

On March 21, the group held a press conference to reveal their future plans for their 10th anniversary celebration, which included a new logo, visual and slogan. The slogan would be "Atsumare! Sawage! Tsunagare!" (集まれ! 騒げ! 繋がれ!; Gather! Make Noise! Connect!).[26][27] Additionally, the group would participate in and perform at various festivals and events throughout Japan that year, reminiscent of their pre-debut Musha Shugyo.[28][29][30][31] This third chapter of their Musha Shugyo was titled THE TRIP ~Musha Shugyo~ (THE TRIP 〜夢者修行〜).

From March 25 to December 13, the group held their their 9th tour GENERATIONS 10th ANNIVERSARY YEAR GENERATIONS LIVE TOUR 2023 "THE BEST".[32][33]

On July 10, the group released the song "Minna no Uta" as a digital single. The song was used as the theme song of the horror movie of the same title, which premiered at theaters in Japan on August 11 and features the group members as part of its main cast.[34]

From September 29 to November 10, the group held their their 10th tour GENERATIONS 10th ANNIVERSARY YEAR GENERATIONS LIVE TOUR 2023 "THE STORY".[35]

On November 21, the same day as the group's 11th anniversary since their debut, they released their first mini-album beyond the GENERATIONS. Ahead of the album, they pre-released the song "Diamonds" digitally on September 18.[36][37][38]

From December 7 to December 20, they were scheduled to hold a series of live concerts titled GENERATIONS 10th ANNIVERSARY YEAR GENERATIONS ORCHESTRA LIVE 2023 "THE LOVE".[39] However, due to member Kazuhara Ryuto being diagnosed with COVID-19, the December 19 and 20 concerts could not be held and were instead rescheduled to respectively March 11 and March 18, 2024.[40][41][42]

2024[]

On April 13, it was announced that GENERATIONS had been appointed as support ambassadors of Japan's gymnastics teams. In addition, it was revealed that the group would release the song "Endless Journey" digitally on May 18, which would be dedicated to all the gymnastics of Japan with the main target audience being the athletes competing for medals at the 2024 Summer Olympics in France.[43]

On April 30, it was announced that Sekiguchi Mandy would graduate from the group and depart from LDH JAPAN on June 25, 2024. It was also announced that the group would be holding a press conference on May 1 in regards to the announcement, which would be broadcast for free on the platform CL.[44]

On May 1, GENERATIONS held a press conference with journalists to make announcements regarding their future activities, future plans and about Sekiguchi's scheduled graduation from the group. At the conference, the group announced that their last activity with Sekiguchi would be on May 6 with a performance on the TV music program CDTV Live! Live!, and that after the performance the members would be working individually until June, and then from July, they would resume activities as a 6-member group.[45] It was also announced that the group was planning to start a live tour in autumn, and that they were looking for support members for it, including vocalists, dancers and performers, whether professional or amateur. However, they would only support the group and not join GENERATIONS as new members.[46][47]

On June 19, the group released footage of their previous lives in a triple simultaneous release, as well as audio recordings digitally.[48][49][50]

On July 1, the group held a live stream on their YouTube channel and on the platform CL to announce their future activities under the new 6-member formation.[51] At the broadcast, the group announced their 2024 arena tour GENERATIONS LIVE TOUR 2024 "GENERATIONS 2.0", which was held from September 8 to November 10 before later being extended to go until December 31, and the opening of the auditions for the new support members of the group's live performances and music videos.[52][53]

On October 26, it was announced that the group will hold the project PRODUCE 6IX COLORS, which will feature new songs produced by the members for six consecutive months starting from February 2025.[54]

On December 31, the group announced their scheduled projects for 2025 which includes the PRODUCE 6IX COLORS project, a new arena tour titled GENERATIONS LIVE TOUR 2025 "6IX SENSE" scheduled to start during autumn, the release of their third photobook, an event titled TOKYO GENERATIONS COLLECTION, a new documentary movie directed by Matsunaga Daiji, and a new group character named "GENEKO".[55]

2025[]

On January 10, the group released the song "Cozy" digitally. The song will be used as the theme song of the movie Salaryman Kintaro Sakigake-hen, which will premiere at theaters in Japan on February 7 and stars former GEKIDAN EXILE member Suzuki Nobuyuki.[56]

On February 3, the group released the song "True or Doubt" as their seventh digital single. This is the first release of the PRODUCE 6IX COLORS project, being produced by member Nakatsuka Yuta and with lyrics and composition by Da-iCE member Hanamura Sota[57].

On March 3, the group will release the song "Kizuita Koto wa" as their eighth digital single. This is the second release of the PRODUCE 6IX COLORS project, being produced by member Katayose Ryota and sound produced by Tsutaya Yoshiyuki.

On April 7, the group will release their ninth digital single. This is the third release of the PRODUCE 6IX COLORS project, being produced by member Shirahama Alan.

On May 5, the group will release their tenth digital single. This is the fourth release of the PRODUCE 6IX COLORS project, being produced by member Komori Hayato.

On June 2, the group will release their eleventh digital single. This is the fifth release of the PRODUCE 6IX COLORS project, being produced by member Sano Reo.

On July 7, the group will release their twelfth digital single. This is the sixth and last release of the PRODUCE 6IX COLORS project, being produced by member Kazuhara Ryuto.

  • The group had several support members, who later debuted in other EXILE TRIBE groups: Iwaya Shogo, Fujiwara Itsuki, Urakawa Shohei and Hasegawa Makoto were added to the group THE RAMPAGE in 2014, and Sato Taiki was added to EXILE the same year, and later to FANTASTICS in 2017. Nakatsuka Yuta was also a support member of the group until his addition in September 2012.
  • The official fandom name of the group is "DREAMERS", deriving from their 20th single of the same title. The name of the fandom was decided on November 21, 2021 during a live broadcast to celebrate the group's 9th anniversary.[62][63]
  • The group has its own apparel brand titled MOE -MOMENT OF EVERGReeN- which launched on November 17, 2023.[64][65]
  • On December 27, 2019, avex revealed the top artists with the highest number of views in total on their YouTube channel. On this list, GENERATIONS took the 6th spot with a total number of about 320 million views.[66]
  • On Produce 101 Japan in 2019, the contestant group "KSIX" auditioned performing GENERATIONS' song "BIG CITY RODEO". Solo contestant Mamehara Issei, who ranked 1st at the final of the show, also sang their song "Itsuka Harewataru Sora no Shita de" during his audition and revealed himself to be a big fan of them.[67][68]
  • Japanese judoka and gold medalist (2020 Tokyo Olympics, women's +78 kg) Sone Akira is a huge fan of the group. Her chosen game song is "Love You More" and she describes watching the group's DVDs as the best way to take a break.[69][70]
  • Japanese artistic gymnast and gold medalist (2020 Tokyo Olympics, men's individual all-around competition) Hashimoto Daiki has mentioned "To the STAGE" by GENERATIONS as a song he listens to before games.[71]
  • For the group's 11th debut anniversary, a special website was opened.
