DTC -Yukemuri Junjou Hen- from HiGH&LOW - Character Overview

Character Overview

DTC -Yukemuri Junjou Hen- from HiGH&LOW (DTC -湯けむり純情篇- from HiGH&LOW) is the fifth original movie and third spin-off title of the HiGH&LOW franchise. It focuses on the "DTC" trio and was released on September 28, 2018 in theaters in Japan.

Unlike the previous works of HiGH&LOW, this movie is a coming-of-age drama without action that emphasizes the comedic and emotional sides of the franchise. Additionally, it is the directorial debut of Hiranuma Norihisa who participated in writing the screenplays for all the previous films in the series.

On February 20, 2019, the movie was released on DVD and Blu-ray.

Description[]

Tired of running through the exciting days of exposing a state cover-up, Dan (Yamashita Kenjiro), Tettsu (Sato Kanta), and Chiharu (Sato Taiki) [a.k.a. DTC] set off on a motorcycle trip without a destination in search of their beating hearts and youth (and women)!

At a ryokan in a hot spring resort town where they end up, they meet Mari (Fueki Yuko), the young proprietress, and her only daughter Megumi (Arai Miu). Chiharu falls in love with Mari, who has lost her husband and is raising her daughter single-handedly while running the inn, but he discovers that Mari and Miyazaki (Suruga Taro), the head watchman, are attracted to each other. To push Mari and Miyazaki, who have been reluctant to remarry out of concern for Mari's daughter, the three members of DTC scheme a grand plan for Miyazaki's proposal! In addition to their friends the Vertical Flute Brothers (Yagi Masayasu, Amano Kousei), they also get help from those who once fought against them such as SMG (Hirose Tomoki, Matsuda Ryo, Nishikawa Shunsuke, Nishimura Ikki) and the Daruma Babies (Mizuno Masaru, Tanaka Shunsuke, Moriya Koji, Izawa Yuki), who happened to be there, to secure the future of Mari and her family but the situation suddenly develops in an unexpected direction! What will be the outcome of DTC's bizarre and pure-hearted journey?

Trivia[]

  • While Hiranuma Norihisa had written scripts for the franchise before, this is the first HiGH&LOW work directed by him.[1]
  • The decision to make this spin-off a road movie, not an action adventure like the original HiGH&LOW series, came from EXILE HIRO. Director Hiranuma Norihisa initially wrote a story in which DTC was inside S.W.O.R.D., but then HIRO suggested that it would be better to go outside S.W.O.R.D., in order to expand the world of the franchise and depict the growth of the characters.[1]
  • The hot spring town where the film takes place is called "Kamishimo Onsen" (かみしも温泉), which means "Kami" (上; up) and "Shimo" (下; down), as in "HiGH&LOW" in Japanese.[1]
  • Tachiki Fumihiko, the narrator of the HiGH&LOW franchise, appears in the movie as the owner of the snack bar "Kazashimo" (風下).[1]
  • For the original musical numbers in the movie, the staff of the movie worked with a team called "ANOTHER", which is composed of two members, Mitsu.J and Onishi Katsumi.[1]
