  • Tomogen (2000-2013)

History[]

2000-2003[]

In 2000, DOBERMAN INC was formed by the rappers KUBO-C, GS, P-CHO, MAB and Tomogen. Previously, members KUBO-C, GS, P-CHO had been active as the trio "WEST HEAD" in their hometown Nara. After the formation, the 5-member group moved their base to Osaka and started their activities.[1]

In addition to the high level of their rapping skills, all the members were in their early twenties, and they seemed to be attracting attention as a representative act of the new generation, especially in the Kansai area. Looking back on their early years, the members later said: "We were mainly doing mic nights at clubs in Osaka, so it felt like we were on at 2 or 3 a.m." (P-CHO),[2] "We were still amateurs at that time, so our main life was to work part-time to make ends meet, and we would take days off on the days we performed." (GS).[1][2]

In 2002, the band made their indie debut with the studio album DOBERMANN under the production of MATCHSTICKMEN, featuring BACH LOGIC aka BL. The sound production by BACH LOGIC became one of the factors that solidified DOBERMAN INC's position in the Japanese Hip-Hop scene.[1][3]

On April 15, 2003, they released their second indie studio album MEGA CITY FIVE.

2004-2007[]

In 2004, the group got signed to the record label Victor Entertainment and made their major-label debut with the mini-album CONVERSATION PIECE.[3]

In 2006, member MAB left the group and they continued with 4 members.[4]

2008-2013[]

In 2008, the group signed with LDH and started being managed by the agency.[1]

In 2013, after the group's solo live "SECRET BASE" on October 17th, member Tomogen left the group.[5] Since the remaining members, KUBO-C, P-CHO, and GS, still wanted to challenge themselves with music, they consulted with EXILE HIRO, and the idea of adding vocals to DOBERMAN INC surfaced.[6] At the same time, SWAY, a rapper and actor of the theater troupe Gekidan EXILE who had been friends with the members of DOBERMAN INC, told them that he wanted to join the position that had been left open after Tomogen's departure.[6]

2014[]

On June 17, 2014, during the EXILE Presents VOCAL BATTLE AUDITION 4 ~Yume wo Motta Wakamono Tachi e~, it was announced that contestant KAZUKI had been added to the group as a vocalist and that the group's name would change to DOBERMAN INFINITY. Before the audition started, the three remaining members had exchanged ideas for restarting the group, such as the addition of a female vocalist and a band formation, but they ultimately chose KAZUKI as "the most suitable person for DOBER" among the people they liked in the audition.[7][1][8][9] A week later, on June 24, the group officially announced the addition of SWAY and formally restarted the group.[1][8] Additionally, the group moved record labels to TOY'S FACTORY.
