DEEP (formerly known as COLOR) is a Japanese vocal boy group managed by LDH JAPAN and signed to Sony Music Associated Records.

The group was originally formed by EXILE ATSUSHI in 2004.

History[]

2004-2009: COLOR[]

In late 2004, COLOR was formed by EXILE member ATSUSHI in 2004, with the initial line-up including ATSUSHI as the leader, KIKURI, YORK, and TAKA.

On December 1, 2004, COLOR made their debut with the single "Special love".

On October 21, 2006, ATSUSHI, YORK and KIKURI left the group, but ATSUSHI remained related to the group being their producer while new members would join the group with TAKA.

On October 24, 2006, TAKA was appointed the group's new leader.

On December 1, 2006, three new members were added to the group: YUICHIRO, KEISEI, and RYO. All the three members participated of the EXILE VOCAL BATTLE AUDITION 2006 ~ASIAN DREAM~, with YUICHIRO being a finalist, while KEISEI and RYO were semifinalists.

On April 25, 2007, the group released their fifth single "Namida ga Ochinai You ni", first to include the new formation of the group.

2009-2018: DEEP[]

On June 30, 2009, at the last concert of COLOR LIVE TOUR 2009 〜DEEP〜, it was announced the group would be renamed from COLOR to DEEP on July 1, and that would be no longer under the production of ATSUSHI.[1]

On October 7, 2009, the group released their 13th single "Endless road", also the first release as DEEP.

On November 17, 2010, the original COLOR line-up made an one-night revival at EXILE ATSUSHI's solo live EXILE ATSUSHI Premium Live ~The Roots~.

In December 2015, the group was transferred from rhythm zone to Sony Music Associated Records.

On September 25, 2018, member RYO announced that he would be leaving the group and also retire from the entertainment business by the end of the year.[2]

On December 31, 2018, RYO left the group and retired from the entertainment business.

2019: DEEP SQUAD[]

On February 19, the group started an audition, titled DEEP VOCALIST AUDITION, to find a new vocalist for the group after RYO's departure.[3]

On July 22, a live event titled DEEP VOCALIST AUDITION ~FINAL STAGE~ was held at Akasaka BLITZ and the members revealed that DEEP would continue activities as a trio but that they also started a new entertainment project titled DEEP SQUAD, including the DEEP members and the three winners from the audition: Uhara Yuhi, Sugiyama Ryoji and Higa Suzuki.[4]

2022[]

On July 23, 2022, DEEP SQUAD members Uhara Yuhi, Sugiyama Ryoji and Higa Suzuki were announced as contestants of the iCON Z ~Dreams For Children~ Chapter 2 audition. In the same day, the DEEP members announced the resumption of their activities as DEEP.[5]

On August 7 and 8, the group performed at the Water Rand 2022 festival, being their first activity since DEEP SQUAD's formation.[6]

From December 1 to December 23, the group held a series of live concerts titled DEEP PREMIUM LIVE 2022 "MORE DEEP".[7]

2023[]

From November 27 to December 22, DEEP held a series of live concerts titled DEEP Billboard Premium Live 2023 "Just The Way We Are".[8][9]

2024[]

On January 1, the group released their first digital single "Darlin'", which served as the theme song for the TV drama BL Drama no Shuen ni Narimashita.[10][11]

From November 21 to December 21, DEEP will hold their thirteenth live tour (sixteenth overall) DEEP LIVE TOUR 2024 "Yoake" ~Life Story~.[12]
