Tosaka Hiroomi (登坂広臣), currently known by the stage name ØMI, is a Japanese singer-songwriter, performer, actor and producer. He is a member of the group Sandaime J SOUL BROTHERS from EXILE TRIBE.
He passed the EXILE Presents VOCAL BATTLE AUDITION 2 ~Yume wo Motta Wakamono Tachi e~ as one of two winners in 2010 and was selected as a vocalist of Sandaime J SOUL BROTHERS.
He is also the founder and president of the record label CDL entertainment, and a creative officer of LDH JAPAN.
Tosaka made his debut as a soloist with the digital single "WASTED LOVE" in July 2017 under the stage name HIROOMI TOSAKA. In February 2021, he changed his stage name to ØMI for his solo activities. As of August 2022, he also uses the stage name as a member of Sandaime J SOUL BROTHERS.
Early Life[]
Tosaka Hiroomi was born on March 12, 1987 in Tokyo, Japan. He has an older sister.[1]
In his youth, he played soccer from elementary school to high school.[2]
When he was in high school, he had no motivation to study.[1] Influenced by the TV drama Beautiful Life ~Futari de Ita Hibi~ (2000), Tosaka decided to become a beautician/hair stylist after graduating from a specialized vocational school and passing the national exam instead of going to university as he rather wanted to have a job.[2] Ultimately, he graduated from the Kubota Barber Beauty College and worked at a hair salon in Omotesando.[1][2] However, he quit his job after only six months.[1] He then worked part-time as a sales clerk at an apparel store.[3][2]

2021[]
On February 17, Tosaka announced that he had changed his stage name as a soloist to "ØMI". He also announced that his solo activities would now be under his own project CDL entertainment, a newly established record label and subsidiary of LDH Records.[10][11][12] "CDL", an acronym for "CLAIR DE LUNE", would be a continuation of his solo project of the same title that started in 2017 and "produce and transmit entertainment with a mysterious and ephemeral quality that can change its appearance as the shape of the moon changes from day to day".[13][14] Additionally, he revealed that besides working as a solo artist under the new label, he would like to eventually focus on producing as well while working not only in Japan but also globally.[15]
On May 12, he released his third CD single "ANSWER... SHADOW" with the theme of "the loneliness and conflict of living as an artist" as the first work in his "ANSWER" series.[12][16] Prior to the release, three songs from the single were pre-released in a three month consecutive release project (one per month): the title track "ANSWER... SHADOW" on February 20, "Can You See The Light" on March 12, and "Colorblind" on April 16.[10]
On July 16, it was announced that Tosaka would be the main producer of the girls division of the audition iCON Z ~Dreams For Children~ held by LDH JAPAN. The goal of the girls audition would be to select members for a future global girl group signed to CDL entertainment and co-produced by HYBE LABELS JAPAN.[17][18][19] For this occasion, Tosaka also intruduced a panel of judges made up of experts in the Japanese music industry (ALYSA, Emyli, ZERO and Ruu), two of which he had known and worked with for several years (Emyli and ZERO).[20][21] When asked about the reason for his participation as a producer in the audition, he later revealed that it had been one of his goals for a long time: "I have always been in the position of a producer in my activities with JSB3, and I have also been self-producing my own solo career for many years, so I knew that I like to create and produce something from scratch. Then, when I thought about my future career and the future of the music scene, I began to think that it would be great if I could create a group or entertainment that would have my DNA and be active in Japan and the world. The idea of creating a girl group or holding auditions was something I had been thinking about for a long time, even before "iCON Z" was launched. I was thinking of organizing auditions by myself, but at the same time, "iCON Z" started as a big initiative of LDH, and EXILE HIRO asked me, "How about being the producer of the girl group division?" What I wanted to do matched what LDH was looking for, so I decided to be in charge of it."[22] As for the collaboration with HYBE LABELS JAPAN, Tosaka explained: "[...] LDH's representative HIRO and HYBE's Chairman Bang Si-Hyuk had been in contact with each other, and they had talked about how they wanted to introduce interesting entertainment to the world. First of all, "Let's deepen exchanges among artists" [...] . But actually, behind the scenes, we were also talking about this audition at the same time, and we kept talking about how best to get HYBE involved."[22]
On October 15, he released his 5th digital single "ANSWER... SHINE" as a continuation of his physical release in May. The single includes the track "You" produced by SUGA of BTS.[23][24]
On December 13, he released his sixth digital single "SHINE".
2022[]
On February 2, he released his third studio album ANSWER..., being his first album release under the stage name ØMI.[25] According to Tosaka himself, the album is a work to express his light and shadow sides, but also appreciation and gratitude to his fans: "When I decided to reveal my weaknesses in the "ANSWER…" series, though, I asked myself, "What is the answer?" The reason why I've been able to stay in music is because of my fans. I felt that there'd be little reason for artists to exist if they were no longer wanted. That's why I want to give back to my fans with songs that contain as much love as possible. [...]"[26][27]
From February 5 to April 28, Tosaka held his second solo tour ØMI LIVE TOUR 2022 "ANSWER...".
On March 28, he released his seventh digital single "ANSWER ~LIVE FOREVER~".[28][29][30][31]
On August 27, in a teaser video uploaded on Sandaime J SOUL BROTHERS's Twitter and Instagram accounts, Tosaka's name was listed as his stage name ØMI instead of his birth name, implying that he would also use his stage name (which was previously exclusive to his solo career) in the group.[32] In September, his profile pages on Sandaime's website and EXILE TRIBE mobile website were also updated to ØMI, confirming the change.
2023[]
On October 17, he released his second photo essay LAST SCENE.[33][34]
On November 4, it was announced that ØMI had been appointed as a Creative Officer of LDH JAPAN, a role responsible for creating and transmitting the entertainment of LDH.[35]
2024[]
On June 21, he released his eighth digital single "Purple Pill", featuring Japanese artist SKY-HI.[36]
On October 18, he released his ninth digital single "Feel Gold", featuring Japanese actor and artist Yamashita Tomohisa.[37]

- Family
Tosaka's a father is an office worker and his mother is a housewife. According to himself, he grew up in an "super laissez-faire" household, was rather left alone and can hardly remember his parents getting angry at him.[1]
- Relationships
In August 2016, it was reported by some weekly gossip magazines that Tosaka and Japanese model Rola had been dating in secret since the end of 2015 after becoming closer through the coincidence that they both had the same English conversation teacher. Both parties involved didn't comment on the reports. On January 1, 2017, some magazines reported that they had broken up due to busy schedules, again with no comment from either of them.[38][39][40]

Trivia[]
- Member Color: Blue
- His first name, "Hiroomi", was given to him by his grandmother and comes from the fictional character "Romeo" of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.[41]
- Has several tattoos. One of them is the lettering "Forever Young" on the back of his neck.
- Although he only has been using "ØMI" as his official stage name since February 17, 2021, he had already used the differently spelled version "OMI" for his features on the songs "OZ Monster" (2017) and "FIRST CLASS XMAS" (2017) by fellow Sandaime J SOUL BROTHERS member CrazyBoy.
- Changed his stage name as a soloist from "HIROOMI TOSAKA" to "ØMI" because it is his nickname and the name he is most comfortable with: "My fans, members, overseas producers, friends, and even my family all call me OMI. I feel comfortable with the name OMI, and I decided to use the name OMI in order to make it more familiar and easier to understand. I also added a slash to the moon symbol that has been used in my past works ("Ø")."[15][14][12]
- For his solo work, he uses the image and concept of the moon: "The moon has a full moon and a crescent moon, and its shape changes from day to day. I also wanted to express myself as a ever-changing person through my works, not always the same, so the moon fit well."[5]
- According to himself, CLAIR DE LUNE is both a brand name and a project name.[8]
- In an interview in 2018, he revealed that he would like to transmit culture, not only fashion, but also food, space, events, music, etc., under the name in the future. "For example, we may produce a different store in the next phase of development, or we may produce a new group of children, or we may create an award to promote Japanese music to the world... In any case, I would like to make this a place where Japanese culture and good Japanese products are gathered and presented to the world."[8]
- He launched the project to represent the opposite of LDH and EXILE's original image: "LDH has an image of creating entertainment as strong as the light of the sun, led by EXILE, but I thought it would be nice to have entertainment like the light of the moon as well as the sun at times."[15][14]
- In an interview in 2021, he revealed that in terms of producing, his goal for the future is "to create a group that can give the best performance and become an icon of the times so that CDL entertainment can produce such artists".[15]
- Decided to produce a girl group as his first artist because had always wondered why there weren't more girl groups in Japan that could perform at a global standard. According to himself, Japan's entertainment industry as a whole would be in an environment where it is difficult for Japanese girl groups to grow and the current situation in Japan would make it difficult to create girl groups with a style different from that of Japanese "idols", which he wanted to change.[42][43]
- Likes to create entertainment based on stories.[44][45]
- Music made him fall in love with fashion too. "[...] When I was a student, I saw music videos of foreign artists and I wanted to wear the same kind of fashion. Especially in other countries, music and fashion are very close, and I still remember the impact of that."[8]
- Nevertheless, he has mentioned that he doesn't really know that much about fashion.[8]
- His musical roots are R&B and Hip-Hop, but he is not biased toward any genre and the music he listens to has changed with the times. "I am a person who did not receive musical education, learned to play an instrument, or received voice training. I was the type of person who liked and listened to music that came to me from my surroundings. I listened to a lot of different genres when I was in junior high and high school. I liked Hip-Hop, and I was also into R&B, especially Brian McKnight [...]. After I grew up and started going to clubs, I listened to various genres such as hip-hop, psychedelic, and techno, and of course I knew the J-pop that everyone knew. So I am not biased toward any genre. The music I listen to changed with the times, but if I had to say my roots, it started with R&B and Hip-Hop."[24]
- According to himself, the music he makes as a solo artist has not been specifically "for Japan" or "for overseas".[24]
- The type of person that comes up with visual images before words. "When I hear the track, I can see what the music video will look like."[26]
- According to himself, he feels uncomfortable writing lyrics and singing about his own emotions: "[...] I get quite shy when I talk about my feelings in an honest manner (laughs). Basically, when I write or sing my own lyrics, it is easier for me to write and sing if I have a clear worldview, or if I am playing a character, or if I am expressing someone other than myself."[46]
- When asked about his private life in early 2022, he answered that he was "just a normal person who doesn't really do anything", but that he also had a wide circle of friends. "My life is so uninteresting that I can confidently say that I am an adult with nothing interesting to look into."[26][27]
- Not much of a dancer, he describes himself as "almost an amateur when it comes to dance".[12]
- According to the members of MOONCHILD, he has taken great care of them, given them a lot of advice and always reassured them and given them confidence when they were worried or anxious. Additionally, even though he is an active member of a group and very busy, he would always attend their music video shoots, recordings, and event rehearsals, from early in the morning until late at night.[47][48][49]
- Is very close with Kawamura Kazuma of THE RAMPAGE. [14]
- Has a close friendship with Yonezu Kenshi.[50]
- In 2018, he revealed that he is in contact with Pharrell Williams on a regular basis.[8]
- Considers Virgil Abloh and Kim Jones as good friends he used to hang out with.[8]
- Feels a generation gap between him and his juniors in EXILE TRIBE.[14]
